Mike "Gripp" Ruete was a level designer on The Nightmare Levels, working for Monolith Productions from January to June 1999. He mentions creating a BloodBath level for the expansion, as well as working on Rocky Mountain Trophy Hunter II and various levels for Sanity: Aiken's Artifact. He then left for Alex St. John's WildTangent alongside Daniel Bernstein, Brennon Reid and Rick Winter, working there from July 1999 until June 2002. Moving on to Activision from October 2002 to October 2003, Ruete then started a long term career at Microsoft in April 2004, including for Microsoft Game Studios. Prior to working at Monolith he was part of the Doom mod group Team TNT and contributed MAP29: Brutality for Icarus: Alien Vanguard (1996) and created the Quake map Rust in Peace.
